Picking a sink for me! Harder than you might think.

A couple of months ago I wrote an article on how to pick a kitchen sink.  I still stand by every word of it and would tell a client exactly the same thing today, but now that I am picking out a new sink for myself it is harder than I remembered!

Here is my dilemma.  My new kitchen is much more contemporary than any I have personally had before. With my dark cabinets and Everest White Radiance Quartz counters the obvious choice for a sink is a one bowl, zero radius stainless sink.  Okay, I love that look but the bigger question is will I still be happy with my stainless sink 5 years from now? Hmm... I am not sure and Robert says I won't be happy.

Then I began to consider my other options.  I currently have a fireclay sink by Rohl, that I LOVE!  It is about 4 years old and looks as good as the day it was put itRohl makes a single bowl sink that is gorgeous but it does come with a price tag that is a little higher than my hoped for budget. On the other hand I do love the fireclay sinks and would never regret that decision.

My one other option that would be a little, okay a lot more budget friendly is a one bowl granite composite sink.  Again, I ask myself "will I be happy in a few years from now?"
I just don't know.  I have however decided it is good to put myself back in the shoes of my clients and realize how emotional these decisions can feel.

I will let you know what I decideHowever on the positive side of decision making I ordered my cool Sutton pulls by Jeffery Alexander!  I am feeling very hip!

Time to Renovate an Older Home

Life is always changing, sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes intentionally

If you know Robert and I well, you know we are project people.  We generally have something going on that makes our life more hectic but generally fun and interesting.  Earlier this summer we bought a house that we planned to renovate and flip.  About 6 weeks ago Robert suggested the possibility of us downsizing (always part of a bigger plan for us) and take this house we bought this summer and do an addition on it and move there.  It's only about 5 blocks from our current home.

After many conversations, some tears and lots of prayer we have decided to do it!  Today our current home officially went on the market.    I thought you HGTV groupies might enjoy seeing the tour.  We have lots to accomplish in the coming months, the major one getting our house sold.

Though we will miss our beloved neighborhood.  Truly the Boulders has been the best neighborhood we have ever lived in. We enjoy all of our neighbors, no neighborhood drama, and you can't beat the location. However, it is time for us to move on.

On the other hand I am very happily designing the interior of our new home, which will be much more contemporary.  As we get further along I will begin to post photos.  The new (old) house as it stands now requires a true visionary to see the possibilities!  I would hate to shock any one at this point! You would probably send us letters of condolence and try to convince us we need therapy immediately.  This is the elevation drawing as a teaser. We are headed for a mid century look.  I am going to add a bit of an industrial twist to our decor, especially in our new office.  Excited to go shopping!

Check out the virtual tour of our existing home and if you know someone who needs a wonderful home, in a fantastic neighborhood send them to our Realtor- Linda Wood of Realty Executives in Prescott.

How to Pick a Kitchen Sink - Again!

Check out my recent article about choosing a kitchen sink in the October issue of Prescott Woman Magazine.  Prescott-Woman-Magazine---October-November-2012  the article appears on Page 48.

I know I did an article on sinks a while back, but it is always nice to read up on
this again.   Just in case you happen to have a new sink in your future!

Weddings are wonderful!

About once a year I switch design gears and "design" a wedding!  It's a lot like any other design project, just more feminine and romantic!  This years wedding was beautiful, set at a gorgeous venue in Scottsdale,Arizona.  The staff at  Sassi was wonderful and the food served was delicious. Definitely check them out if you are considering  getting married in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Lots of info at  http://www.sassiweddings.com

The theme was an elegant, shabby chic.  My bride had a vision and I had the fantastic job of bringing that dream to life. Here are a few photos of the day.

Love these name card boxes.  So cute!

Programs and the Heart Guest Book.
The programs are mine and the Guest Book is an Etsy find.

The wedding Hoopa, such a beautiful symbol of the
beginning of their married life together.

Love the burlap aisle cones with baby's breath.
  Perfect and simple.

Delightful and charming tables

The wedding went off perfectly, the bride was beautiful
and the party was a joyful event.  Priceless!

I have just been contacted by my 2013 bride.
I am excited about getting those creative juices going again.

Remodeling Magazine April 2012 or how I became a Cover Girl!

As I posted earlier it was a great experience being photographed and interviewed for this magazine.  Even more than that it was terrific to be recognized for something that I have been doing for a very long time.  Bringing value to my clients through careful selection of wonderful but price friendly items.  Since I have yet to find a client that says "money is no object" this strategy has served both the client and me well during my career.

Read the article and lets talk about what we can do for you!

Remodeling Magazine Photo Shoot - Jason Millstein

Me getting ready to take a picture of Jason
Today was a first for me.  I was photographed for the April cover of
Remodeling Magazine.  A trade magazine focusing on the world of remodeling.
Guess that is a little obvious. I was excited to meet photographer Jason Millstein
of Illume Photography  located in Scottsdale, AZ.  He is a super nice guy and told me
about many of the famous people he has taken photos of.  However, I had to
ask him about his "Who's Who's" list, he really wasn't a bragger.
I felt rather excited to be included in his subject list.

We started at 11:00 am this morning.  He hauled in all kinds of lights, stands, lens
meters, and stuff.  There is a ton of set up that goes into what appears to be a simple
photo. He took photos and I smiled until 2:00 pm.  Jason told me the magazine
wanted a shot of me looking happy but not too happy! Does that
translate to professionally serious, but pleasant? I don't really know but,
I think that it is kind of funny actually.

The photo pairs with an article focusing on bringing value to a design/ remodel
project for a client without compromising the finished product.
Something I think I am pretty good at.

The first shots were in the kitchen being featured in the article with the last shots
outside sitting in a big leather chair! The picture below is from
my vantage point in the big chair, being told not to move or squint!

Jason shooting me as I took a pic of him!
I am not sure which picture will be chosen for the cover, but Jason did a great job of
making me feel comfortable and he did promise to make me look younger and
less tired! I can now officially check modeling off my bucket list.  It's harder than it looks.
Thanks Jason, your my new favorite!

Prescott Woman Magazine April Edition

Prescott Woman Magazine has turned
out to be Board by Board's new best friend!
This publication has been so supportive of our
work here in Prescott and in the upcoming April
edition they are actually featuring an article
on Robert and I.  I will post a link as soon
as I have one.

While I am on the topic of press coverage, we are
also going to get some national press in the month of
April!  Remodeling Magazine will feature a project
of ours as well as an article on how to bring
value to client's projects in our cost conscious
economy.  I had tons of ideas to share with
Editor Nina Patel and it will
be exciting to see what is in the issue.

Check back and I will have a link to both.

Hope you enjoyed our spring snow storm
here in Prescott!

New Kitchen Backsplash - What A Change!

I have mentioned a few times that there are simple projects that can
dramatically change a kitchen. A new back splash and cabinet hardware
can be just the ticket. Take a look at this kitchen before. Great bones but
the splash is not up to the rest of the room.

New stone splash and new cabinet hardware!

Did you notice what adding cabinet hardware did for this kitchen?
It's like adding earrings to an outfit!  These wonderful craftsman style knobs
and pulls came from Jeffery Alexander, I am loving this company and the
great collection of cabinet hardware they have.  The collection features so
many different  and stylish pulls and knobs.
Please contact me if you would like to order any
Jeffery Alexander Hardware.

My clients were just thrilled with how a couple of days of construction
changed their kitchen so dramatically.  If your Kitchen needs a mini
pick me up, give me a call.  I have so many ideas that can make
your kitchen beautiful in a very short time.

New Year, New Designs

With every January comes the feeling of a clean slate. The Christmas decorations are put away and hopefully we have found time to weed out some of the stuff we haven't used all year. I love that feeling of being organized and dust free! Even if it is only for a few weeks.

Then there is the challenge of setting some goals for the coming year. My biggest business related goal this year is to bring not only beauty but function to the clients I have the privilege of working with in 2012. I am very happy to say Board by Board is off to a great start with new projects. I will be posting photos of these new kitchens, bathrooms and other projects as we are completing them.

A couple of other exciting things have happened recently. I received a nice mention in a Prescott Daily Courier article on what to do before you start a kitchen or bathroom project. Here is the link if you would like to check it out. http://www.dcourier.com/main.asp?SectionID=74&SubSectionID=114&ArticleID=101815&TM=63922.35

I was also interviewed by the YCCA for it's local Hammer Time show that airs on KQNA. Hosts Sandy Griffis and Mike Enders were a lot of fun. click on the January 7th Hammer Time program part 2 . My interview is about 30 minutes long. http://ycca.org/v1/index.php/events/hammer-time

Here is to a great 2012! Do something nice for yourself and your home. At the very least add a touch of whimsey! That way you will be sure and smile everyday.
